Is Lifelock A Rip-Off?
I found an interesting article on LickLock while I was surfing the other day. LifeLock has a nice polished appearance and I was surprised to read the article and find out that it might be a little too polished, like they might be trying to hide something.
Robert J. Maynard Jr. founded LifeLock after a history in the credit repair industry which resulted in being banned for life by the Federal Trade Commission in the mid-1990′s. According to this article, What Happened in Vegas, there might be a hole in Maynard’s often told story of his stretch in jail after being a victim of identity theft.
On February 13th. Experian filed suit against LifeLock in the United States District Court, Central District of California. Experian alleges it’s losing millions of dollars a year because of LifeLock’s “illegal and fraudulent activities.” Read the Experian complaint against LifeLock in it’s entirety here.
So this makes me start to wonder. Is LifeLock a rip-off? What are they really providing their customers for their monthly fee? The fraud alerts can be done by any consumer for free, right here with Experian for example (you can also call 888-397-3742). (careful they might sue you for calling their 800# to many times, just kidding). So if I can do that for free what are they providing, insurance. Their Million dollar promise to make things right if your identity is stolen is invaluable. If your identity is stolen you are vulnerable, scared, and not sure what to do. It is not an easy process to repair your identity. To have LifeLock being willing to spend to make things right for you is worth the peace of mind. Just remember that you can take a majority of the steps on your own for free. You decide if LifeLock is a rip-off, or a well spent $10.00 a month
